Database Design

Skipwith Jack’s database design experience includes small desktop databases and massive distributed databases serving thousands of users. We can use our experience to design your database or to consult with your team to make sure your database will have a solid foundation. To produce systems that meet your real business needs we can consult with your staff and management to produce screens and involve them in the interface production. We specialise in improving your business process through database development cutting down on employee workloads and time wastage through better information use and flow.

We can also performance tuning on an existing database. Performance tuning is done when the load on a database has increased to the point where the database is no longer as responsive as it should be. We can often find and implement significant improvements that will enable you to squeeze more performance out of your existing database.

Database Migration and Data Conversion

There comes a point where the limiting factor on performance is not the design of the database, but the actual database environment itself. Skipwith Jack has performed many database "upsize" operations where existing data and functionality is moved from one environment to a higher-performance environment (perhaps from an obsolete database to a supported product). This often involves moving database applications from Access, Filemaker or FoxPro to a server-based SQL solution.
